Challenge

Historically the problematic behaviour of a group of buttons on a keyboard, represents a real burden for designers. Every new cluster typology with a new material requires a new process. Analytical investigations are performed simulating the cluster performance under finger pressure. The goal being to improve the durability of the cluster vs. time and load.

Solution

The mechanical behaviour of the 3D model is analysed with DesignSpace. Simulation scenarios have been quickly set up due to:
- The robustness of the mesher
- The efficiency of its adaptability and associativity with the CAD to model all necessary, What if, studies.

Benefits

The compelling advantage of the bi-directional associativity with the CAD models allows a real geometry-analysis to quickly examine different configurations of the cluster. Following well integrated and standardized analysis procedures, several improvements have been made in the membrane connecting the buttons to the frame, also:
- The time saving is dramatic
- The accuracy and reliability of the results allows Tecnost to perform only 2 prototypes. One is based on the initial configuration, the second is performed on the optimized geometry.
