Stiffness Assessment of a Power Transmission Disk Coupling by Wilde FEA

27 October 2004

Connected to drive shafts, disk couplings are used to accommodate misalignment between the motor & driven machinery and reduce bearing loads. A typical coupling consists a pack of thin steel disks that are attached to the drives via alternate bolts. An analysis was undertaken on behalf of Bibby Transmissions to evaluate the angular stiffness of current designs & compare results with experimental test.
