 | Understanding the Benefits of Geotechnical Simulation for the Oil & Gas Industry
Tuesday 16 October 2007 - Aberdeen, UK
Free Afternoon Seminar at the Hilton Treetops Hotel, Aberdeen
Wilde FEA Ltd invite you to an afternoon FREE geotechnical simulation seminar, organised with PLAXIS BV and assisted by the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), to address some of the design challenges faced by the Energy Industries on soil and rock analysis such as:
- Deep Foundations - Spudcan Foundations - Retaining Walls/Quays - Suction Caissons - Deep Excavations - Soft Soils - Buried Pipelines - Piling
Developed specifically for geotechnical engineers as a dedicated design and analysis tool, PLAXIS is used extensively by companies of all sizes involved in ground engineering. Applying leading Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques, users are able to benefit by:
- Predicting the ground movement, structural deflections and loads with accuracy - Removing many conservatisms that are inherent in classical design techniques - Overcoming the limitations of empirical analysis methods - Performing sensitivity studies to bound the effects of material property uncertainties - Accurately calculating ground behaviour & the interaction with adjacent structures
Delegates attending the seminar will learn about the benefits of using FEA technology for solving a wide range of geotechnical problems. The seminar will consist of a mixture of lectures and interactive demonstrations using PLAXIS 2D and 3D software packages. NGI will share their experience in successfully using FEA methods for a wide range of offshore applications, together with case studies from UK-based survey and engineering companies including Fugro Engineering Services.
Who Should Attend?
The seminar is designed to benefit practising geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, structural engineers & consultants in the Oil & Gas industry. Topics will be relevant to both potential and current users of FEA software and consultancy services for geotechnical applications.

The Presenters
Wilde FEA Ltd is a member of the Wilde Group, formed in 1980 as an independent supplier of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solutions to industry. Today, we are recognised both in the UK and internationally as a leading supplier of FEA and CFD technology. Our expertise spans over many fields, covering mechanical, manufacturing, civil & geotechnical and fluid dynamics disciplines. As a distributor of leading FEA & CFD software and provider of technical support, training and consulting services, Wilde FEA Ltd can offer solutions with PLAXIS, ANSYS, AQWA, ASAS, CFX, FLUENT, DEFORM, LS-DYNA and many more.
PLAXIS BV is a company involved in research and development of 2D and 3D numerical models for the characterisation of the deformation behaviour of soils. These models are implemented in their PLAXIS computer program, which is used worldwide by engineering consultants, contractors, government organisations and universities for the analyses of soil structures such as embankments, building trenches, tunnels, foundation constructions, excavations and many more. The leading characteristics of this high-tech software product are the robust calculation procedures and the user-friendly input and output facilities. PLAXIS software is used by more that 3000 users worldwide, with an application-specific product range including PLAXIS V8, PLAXFLOW, DYNAMICS, 3D TUNNEL and 3D FOUNDATION.
