How to Model Geotechnics - NAFEMS Awareness Seminar

Thursday 26 September 2002 - London

The use of finite element analysis techniques within the geotechnical industry is becoming far more widespread. This increased uptake of the technology is being fuelled by the development of dedicated software packages, coupled with the availability of powerful yet inexpensive computers. This combined with the increased pressure for ever more efficient structures is leading to the use of finite element analysis becoming far more widespread in geotechnics.

Chaired by Dr Andrew Mar of Wilde FEA Ltd who has authored the accompanying NAFEMS guide, this seminar will introduce the fundamentals of finite element analysis with a bias towards geotechnical engineering applications. The following topics will be addressed:
- Background to finite element based geotechnical analysis
- FEA considerations for geotechnical analysis
- Case studies illustrating the above topics
