 | Standard Course on Computational Geotechnics (3 days - 22-24 June)
Tuesday 22 June 2010 - Manchester
Course Aims This 3-day course aims to highlight the application of FEA in geotechnical practice and to illustrate, through practical worked examples, the benefits and limitations of this numerical method.
Who Should Attend? The course is aimed at practising geotechnical and civil engineers who wish to learn more about finite element analysis (FEA) techniques applied to geotechnics. The course content will be relevant to current and potential users of simulation software and associated consultancy services.
Comments From Previous Delegates Below is a selection of comments from last year's delegates;
"Excellent! Fully stood up to what was expected with a series of well organised and integrated workshops. Highly recommended." Halcrow Group Ltd
"The course succeeds in providing a broad range of guidance for new and experienced users. The lectures, workshops and expert advice, both theoretical and practical, were all excellent". Waterman TDL
"It is a great course to understand Plaxis and to refresh whole of geotechnics". Mouchel
Background For over eleven years this course has been held in the Netherlands and around the world. During this time, it has developed an excellent reputation and has always been well attended by participants from consulting and contracting companies of all sizes, public work bodies and universities.
Following the success of previous UK courses, the course will again be held in Manchester. As usual, the course will consist of a balanced mixture of lectures and hands-on computer modelling workshops. Both lectures and exercises will concentrate on advanced geotechnical engineering topics.
This course was formally known as the "Numerical Methods in Geotechnical Engineering".
Workshops The hands-on exercises will be performed using FEA to reinforce the concepts described in the lectures and to illustrate the potential pitfalls to avoid. For this purpose the PLAXIS FEA program for soil and rock mechanics is well suited because of its ease of use. This will allow more time for teaching and tutoring on the geotechnical aspects of numerical analysis rather than concentrating on the operation of the finite element program itself.
Certification Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance; attendance on this course may contribute towards CPD (Continual Professional Development), please check with your professional institution.
Training Dates Tuesday 22nd - Thursday 24th June 2010
The course begins with registration on Tuesday morning and ends with a final session on Thursday afternoon.
Course Prices & Registration The cost of the course is 1200 Euro. This includes all lunches and refreshments. The course fee also includes a full set of instruction manuals and the use of a computer.
