 | Wilde Sponsoring Imperial Racing Green Team For 2nd Season - 08.03.2010
Wilde are sponsoring the Imperial Racing Green team from Imperial College London for a second season by providing ANSYS consulting support.
Wilde's 2009-2010 sponsorship builds upon the training support provided last season, which has resulted in peer learning i.e. ANSYS software training is given to those engineers who need to learn how to use the software for the maximum benefit.
Wilde are ideally placed to provide such support has they are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year in providing FEA (Finite Element Analysis), CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), Plastic Injection Moulding, Manufacturing, Reliability and Geotechnical engineering software, consulting and training services to industry and academia.
This season (October 2009 to July 2010) the Imperial Racing Green team are entering a car in the new low carbon category (Class 1a) of the IMechE's Formula Student competition taking place in July. This is the biggest competition of its kind in Europe and challenges university students to design, develop and market a racing car. This years Team are hoping to retain their title as 'Most Innovative Engineering Design'.
The Imperial Racing Green team are also undertaking a 2 year build cycle of a full size battery electric track vehicle to race in next seasons IMechE Formula Student competition in July 2011. The Team hope to finish in the top 5 out of the100 teams entered in the Class 1a category.
Alana Johnson, a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student at Imperial College London, is the 'Student Project Manager' of the Imperial Racing Green team. Alana's role is to co-ordinate the student management team and to ensure objectives of projects are achieved. "The benefits of using Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics have enabled us to gain valuable understanding of how to validate calculations and visualise components before the vehicle is manufactured, therefore contributing towards cost, efficiency and reliability" comments Johnson.
She continues "We use the ANSYS software for stress analysis, verifying hand calculations and testing the components and dynamics of the car. And from the sponsorship support provided by Wilde, we pass on knowledge and information of how to use ANSYS software and analysis to new members of the team."
John Dennis, FEA Technical Director at Wilde comments "Wilde are keenly watching the progress of the Imperial Racing Green team and wish them every success for the future season". Dennis continues "Wilde has always supported engineers of tomorrow and as we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we feel this is an ideal way in which to pass our knowledge and skill onto the next generation of engineers."
